Nothing beats fireworks at the beach, and you won't have a problem finding a spectacular show at the North Carolina Outer Banks for Independence Day. Fireworks displays will be hosted at various times up and down the coast July 4th, 2009.

At the Manteo Waterfront, in addition to the Fireworks, a group of musical theatre students from Western Carolina University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts will perform as part of the Fourth of July celebration at the Roanoke Island Festival Park. The show, titled "What a Country: A Celebration of America," will be directed and choreographed by Amy Jones, resident vocal director and choreographer at Flat Rock Playhouse: The State Theatre of North Carolina. For more information call (252) 475-1500 or check The Roanoke Island website's calendar of events.

Farther north at the Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla, The Whalehead Club will sponser the 17th Annual Independence Day Celebraion. Fireworks over the Currituck Sound begin at dusk, but the grounds open at 5 pm for food and music. Admission is free - bring a chair or blanket and make yourself comfortable.

Heading back south, the Kill Devil Hills Fireworks at the Pier start 9:15 p.m. July 4th at my favorite fishing spot, Avalon Fishing Pier, and the Town of Nags Head and the Nags Head Fishing Pier will co-host the 14th Annual Fireworks Spectacular Saturday, July 4th at 9:25 (MP 11.5). Jockey's Ridge State Park will stay open late on the 4th if you want to watch the fireworks from the east coast's largest sand dune.

Even farther south, the Hatteras Civic Association fireworks start at dusk and Avon Fishing Pier will host fireworks at 9pm.

If you prefer the daylight celebration of a 4th of July parade, the extreme north and south Outer Banks destinations have you covered.

Outer Banks 4th of July Parades

You can start a day early with Duck's Fourth of July Parade Friday, July 3, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. with an after-event immediately following at the Duck Town Park. The after-event will feature live music by Ruth Wyand and Friends, refreshments, and the awarding of trophies for the best parade entries.

The Ocracoke Island Independence Day Parade & Fireworks Display start at 3 p.m., July 4 at Ocracoke Village. The evening ends with a gala fireworks display at Lifeguard Beach.

With plenty of professional options, don't try to conduct your own fireworks display at the Outer Banks. North Carolina prohibits the possession of any pyrotechnics which launch or propel into the air, or which explode making a sound or "report." Sparklers, fountains and ground displays are allowed only with adult supervision and when exercising extreme caution and fire prevention. ALL fireworks, from sparklers on up, are illegal in the Town of Duck and on Hatteras Island.

North Carolina sounds like a fun place to live. My s/o and I are considering a relocation to NC or Georgia in about 2 years or so. I am enjoying the glimpses into NC through your hubs.

NC is a pretty cool state - mountains to the beach! I've lived here all my life and absolutely do not want to live anywhere else. Georgia's okay, too, I guess :-) If you want to know anything in particular, just shoot me an email and I'll try to help!

I was eating at the Black Pelican on the 4th while on book tour one year. I watched fireworks as I dined. it was very cool. And Deborah and I watch fireworks from the dining room on Jennette's Pier (RIP)when they were celebrating the cenntenial of the first flight at the Wright Bros. Memorial. There is nothing like freworks at the beach!

The sea gives another dimension to a fireworks display--- as an inabitant of the left coast I can say it is a special ocasion. Here in the west it sometimes has to compete with a spectacular sea sunset. Thanks, Dineane.

Spent yesterday at the Avon Pier, at the Outer Banks of NC. Nothing better than the band, Fat Skippy out of Richmond, Va, the food and the fireworks. It was great.

I am from North Carolina and I haven't heard about this event. I will have to check it out next year.
